Empire lode No. 5 level, east, at tIOO feet, has risen 34 feet, width of the reef is 6ft. 4in.; value £3 3/. Mary lode No. 4 level, east drive: 418' feet, average width is sft. Bin; low grade." The manager telegraphed after the last call: "Broken down most of the quartz stripped on the Exchange reef. No gold seen." THAMES DEEP LEVELS. At the first call of the Exchange today, the chairman (Mr. F. Hull) remarked: "You will no doubt have noticed, gentlemen, that another contract has been let to drive 500 feet of tho crosscut ait 1000 feet at Thames. The lowest; tender.was fl 18/6 per foot, but the board accepted one at £2 6/ per foot." Speaking .to a "Star" representative subsequent to the call, Mr. Hull said he thought it right to mention the fact. It was gratifying to find that the board had sufficient funds to give away £187 in that way. .. . HANDSWORTH. The manager telegraphed this morning: 001b of specimens and--20 tons of general dirt for £409."
