According to the "Labour Journal" for June, the number of men employed on toe railways during the month of April, was as follows:—Kawakawa, Grahamtown, 44; Eawakawa-Hokdanga, 405; North Auckland, 411; TaurangaPaengaroa, 181; Gisborne-Motu, 419Mount I&mont branch, Iβ; Napier-Gis-borae, 5; Stratforcl-Onganie, 432. Probably on aeocunt of the legal offices being closed to-day there was only a short sitting af the S.M. Court this morning, many of those called not putting in an appearance. One solicitor who was rung up came into Court out of breath, and said he understood it was a holiday, but the Magistrate said that such was not the case. Several hardy looking sons appeared to plead that they could not afford to pay ' anything towards the support of their mothers, and in each instance Mr. Kettle decided to adjourn the matter in the hopes that the young men would find a way of sending something to them without being publicly ordered to do so.
