BOXING.

The committee of the Northern Boxing Association will meet this evening, when tiie officials for "Billy" Murphy's benefit on Monday next will be appointed.

Mr. J. H. Trudgeon, secretary of the Northern Boxing Association, has received a wire from Mr. Ciiappel, of the New Plymouth association, asking for a lightweight to box €. Maxwell at New Plymouth on the Ist June.

_ Mr. J. Trudgeon, hon. secretary of the Northern Boxing Association, has drawn up an exceptionally interesting programme for the benefit to "Billy" Murphy, which takes place at Hie Majesty's Theatre on Monday next, the Bth inst. The principal bouts or the evening- will be a six-round contest between O'Meara and MeLuaky and a sLx-round tout between Holt and Olsen. Both are for trophies, and should be decidedly interesting. In addition, the renowned William will give an exhibition spar with '"Tim" Tracey, who has made the journey from Wellington especially for the occasion. The one-time champion, "Barney" Donovan, an old opponent of "Billy" Murphy, will spar with M 3 son, E. Donovan, and another old-timer, F. Dyer, will box with his son. Other 'bouts arranged are: A. Gault and B. Murphy, Ross and Jselson, T. O'Brien and E. Arthur, Brain and Fordham, T. Lewis and H. Williams, Gilchrist and L. O'Brien. Two of H. Bailey's pupils and two of V. Cliffe's pupils, Messrs. Patrick, Pooley, Savoury, Dnyer, and others have also offered to assist, and the evening should be a memorable one. The benefit to the worldrenowned boxer is a fitting one, at the hands of his fellow citizens, tor it is now a matter of history that William. Murphy was the first New Zea lander to ever gain a world's championship, and by so <ioing gave the Dom/nion a big advertisement. It is to be hoped that all true lovers of the sport will roll up in force, and give -the feteran the reception he deserves.
