WHANGAREI PORT LIGHT.
(By Telecrapli.—Own Correspondent.) WaiANGAKEn:, Friday. In reference to a recent application Mr. J. iMackie, secretary of the Cliamiber of Commerce, to-day received the following communication from the Hon. Minister of Public Works. "I have the honour to acknowledge the recefrpt of your letter, in which you again urge your claims for the erection of a light at Busby Head, at the entrance to the Whangarei Harbour. In reply I may state that the matter will be considered at a later date. I may, however, Tcmark that the proposed light is not so much a coastal light as a harbour light, and, that 'being so, is a question whether the Whangarei Harbour Board 6s not the proper authority to erect and maintain it." The S3. Chelmsford, which had taken the usual "Kanieri" trip to the town ■wharf at Whangarei yesterday, had the misfortune to stick on the mud, when nearing her destination yesterday morning, and was not able to 'berth at the town -wharf till the evening, the tide causing much inconvenience to people who had goods on 'board.
