ST. JOHN'S COLLEGIATE SCHOOL.

Prize-day at St. John's • Collegiate School, '"The Pali," Onehunga, yesterday was most successful. There was a large attendance of parents and friends. The ceremony took place outside in the beautiful grounds of the school, and the guests afterwards had tea on the la>wn. The school has been very fortunate in the number of special prizes donated, and this was specially marked in the ease of the athletic awards. Mr. A. G. Pilkington, president of the Old Boys' Association, presided, and presented the class prizes. Ho expressed great pleasure at the very excellent report made by the headmaster, the Rev. P. Smallfield (reported in our last issue), and said the school was still maintaining its reputation as one of, if not the leading school in the Dominion. It had •worthily held its own both in scholastic and athletic branches. He eongr.itu . la,ted the headmaster and his staff on the splendid work of the past year. While thoroughly appreciating the many excellent features of the public school system of the Dominion, Mr. Pilkington thought that such an institution as St ' John's had certain advantages which ! were not to be found else- ! where —advantages which made foi ' success in the after life of the ! boys. There was more home life, more ! opportunities of influencing the mora! ! training of the 'boys. The old Si" ' John's boys 'were to .be found wortbilj j upholding the name of the school al ] over the colonies, and in other parts o: I the world. ' Mr. Pilkington then presented th< school prizes, after which Mrs. W. B White handed the athletic trophies to th( successful competitors, and Mt. Fraser. of the school staff, presented the trophic; j won by the cadets.
