ROYAX, N. Z. YACHT SQUADRON. The Boyal N.Z. Yacht Squadron imM their first yacht and motor boat races on Saturday axteruoon. The wind at ''.he time or starting -was well easterly, a. good sailing breeze, but it died away us the afternoon wore on. The course was troin Queenstreet wiiarf, round the North Head, keeping in the fairway, then round Raugitoto and Motutapu, finishing at AI-jtiatki. The following were the entries for the yatht race:—Ari&l scratch, Rawene &im, Ilex 6jni, Ida 10m, Marangl llm, KoUrl loiiu, Aorere 10m, Victory l'Jm, Windward 25jm. Arlki and Kawene crossed the starting line together, followed by Ilex one nilnu-te Mter, Wind-ward 2m, Jlarangi 4!n, Kotiri Urn, Ida 4Jmi Aorere lliu. Victory did not start. AJI yachiß ■worked the North Shore to escape the strong Hood tide that mis sweepIng up the itarbour. At the North Arikl ha. destabllelied a very fair lead, and Rawene was sailing extremely well, standing -well np to her canras. After passing the Rangitoto Beacon, Ariki stood well out to sea, while Rnwene worked closer along the shore, -which, gave her ull the advau'tage, ne at Blllygoat Point ehe had gained considerably on Arikl, -which could not make up time sufficiently to win. On corrected times Rnwene is first, Arlki second, and Aorere 'third. The entries hi the power boat race were: Tahatu, ilatareka, Elsie, Winsome. MataTelm crossed the -line one inlnn-te after the starting gun hod fired, Tahctu lm 5b niter, Elsie lm 10s, aud Winsome lm 1-Ja. All 'boats steered a course to clear the Bandspit bwoy, and after rounding the North Head kept to the fairway, going the same course as the yachts. The Winsome gained all the way round, and made a very easy ■win. The results are as follow:—Winsome 1, Tanatu 2, Elsie 3, Matareka 4. VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB. The Victoria Cruising Club held their first series of harbour races last Saturday afternoon. ThoUgH a good breeze was blowing down the harbour, it did not have the &ame strength wliere the club was starting the races, though quite enough for some of the smaller boats. The following are the entries, -with their handicaps: .Mahaki Bcratch, Miro scratch, Wairlkl scratch, Valdora 7m, Eona llm, Rose 12m, Nlobe 14m, Konini 10m. The fintehliig times were: Mlro, oh (to lls; Wairiki, 5h 5m 4s; Valdora, Sb ta 8s; NTobe, 5h 29m 10s; Rose, 5h 31m 33b; Konini, 5h 34m 41s toiliaki did not finish.
