______ HU-fLY. A flfe occurred on Tuesdny night about 11 o'clock, when a targe shed used as a wash-house and drying-room iv connection with Mrs. Batehelor's boardlnghonse - was burned to the ground. A large fire had been put on to dry the boarders' pit clothes, which by some means took lire. The boarders, some ten in number, lost all their working clothes, boots, etc The building was owned by Mr. L. B. Harris, seiir., and was uninsured. A poU of ratepayers In the Huntly Towxt Dlstrict was taken in the Board's office' to decide whether the iKoard be authorised, to borrow _-__00 for the proposed electric! light installation on the lines of a'-'-report which had been received from Mr. Wyllle, electrical . engineer to the Auckland City Council. . Out of a roll of 252 ratepayers, only 71 recorded their votes. A three-tifths majority was required to carry the proposad. The result, which was read, by _h e returning officer (Mr., F, Harris, clerk), was as follows: For. 32; against, 9; majority .against,' 7. ; A clay pigeon -hooting competition takes place on 'Satorday afternoon by 'the members of the Huntly Rod and Gun Club picked from men residing in. the north versus south ends of the township.
