THE EXPORT TRADE.
I FORTXIGHTLY RETURNS. The Customs Department at Auckland ' has instituted a system whereby the i exports for each fortnight wfil be •! made out. The first of -these for tbe ■ fortnight ending yesterday has been '.compiled, and pfovidee interesting readj ing. In the two weeks, for instance, «is j much as f 30,779 worth of kauri gum j was exported. Gold and silver, the next j in importance, were practically of equal 1 value, the goli being valued a"t £11,939, I and the silver at £ 11,725. The next ! largest item was frozen beef (£10,453); J timber comes next, at £9,032, then ; there'is wool (£7,693), and then there lis a drop to £5,000 odd, which reprei sents flax, hides and. tallow,. while all J other lines fall below the £3,000 mark.
