9 PONSONBY LITERARY ANT> DEBATING SOCIETY. The Ponsonby Literary and Debating Society met in the Lecture Hall. Leys Institute, last evening. Mr G. W. Murray presided. The evening was devoted to readings by -members. The following selections were read: "r>r. Tali—age on Lies." Mr D. Docwra; "Blessed Be Drudgery," Mr B. Bullen; ''Industrial Problems," Mr W. McMath; "Exhilarations of the Road." Mr G. II Stu'bbs; "Valentine Vox," Mr R. K. Dowle: "Macnulay's Armada," Mr L. Phillips: "The Smithy," in Burrows' 'L-ven-gro." Mr A. F. Bennett: "John Ruskm on Civilisation." Mr J. Stebbing.
