SALVATION ARMY AND KING EDWARD.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I have now received a copy of the English "War Cry" dated May 4th. in which is contained the article from the pen of Mr. Bramw«ll Booth, which -was made use of by "John Bui),' , and copied by the "Star." Might I ask you to publish the full text of the article, and so give your readers the opportunity of judging -whether the leaders of the Salvation Army are so ungrateful as was made out by "John Bull"? I think you -will agree that the article is couched not only in most respectful language, but also breathes intense gratitude, a)id conveys a deep moral lesson. In the same "War Cry" is published the messages of condolence parsed between the Queen Mother and King George and the "General" and Mrs. Braniwell Booth, besides other matter referring , to tho deep feeling of sorrow at the loss of King Edward, and goes to show "the miserable spirit of the enemies of she Salv.ition Army to choose such a time to pick up and misconstrue words to use to slander the leaders of an organisation that only exists to do good.—l am, etc., J. J. TOOMER, Staff Captain. [We have not space for the full text of the article, which however, as our correspondent states, is appreciative of the work done by the King, who is described by Mr. Bram- , well Booth, as "perhaps the most de- , voted Servant of the State which the State possessed. And his serviw was given without stint in tli2 highest earthly interest alike for his own and of all ' nations—Peace." The article also ac- J knowledges the kindness of the late King i to the Salvation Army and its General. —Ed.]
