NEW SOUTH WAXES , REPORT. [(Received 9.55 a.m.£ SYDNEY, this day. The report of the Labour Department shows that the number of factories in the State at the end of last year was 4219, employing 50)500 males and 23,942 females, increases of 254 factories and 3877 employees. Only 6.8 per cent of the employees were under 16 years of age. The report comments that the number of children who find it incumbent to work in the factories is not Increasing. In comparison with the number of hands employed during the last five years, the hands employed in metropolitan factories increased by 17,087. Working conditions generally have improved, and expectations regarding the minimum wage have been largely realised. The report mentions that last year was the best in the history of the building trade in Sydney and suburbs, the amount expended being over five millions. Altogether 200 new buildings were erected in the ciiy and 5000 in the suburbs.
