AOIATEU'R CHAMPIONSHIP. The contest for the New Zealand Amatenr Billiard Championship was advanced another stage last evening, when Mr. J. Coote met Mr. W. E. Hackett. Tihe latter was a strong favourite, bnt the veteran Cooke off a big surprise, winning toy 47 •points. The winner's best efforts were: 36, 32, 31, 29, 2A, and 22, while Hacfeett, after compiling 75, made runs of 30, 23, and 20. This afternoon Messrs Lovelock and Farrell meet, and this evening Messrs. Valentine and J. Cooke play off their heat.
