After two hours and twenty-five minutes wrestling, a catch-as-cateh-can match between Louis Robertson and Gordon Smith, of Pahiatua, was declared drawn by consent, neither man having gained a fall or any advantage. The-damage i 3 between £3,000 and £4,0C*0- ; -Aslin and Bedford, £ 150 in the Standard, damage £40; George and Doughty, samples, £500, United. FIRE IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, this day. At three o'clock this morning a fire broke out in a cottage in Franklin-avenue. Before the flames were suppressed the cottage and two other houses were damaged, fche ■ occupants of one having to escape in their night clothes. The houses were owned by Dwan Bros., and insured in the South British for £900. CHEMISTS' CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The amraal conference of the Associated Chemists of New Zealand opened here this evening. It was resolved that the administration of the Poisons Act should tie" placed in the hands of the Government:
PRESBYTERIAN PULPIT VACANCIES. DUNEDIN, Tuesday. At a meetirrg of the Dun'edin Presbytery, held to-day, a proposal sent down by .the General Assembly was considered. The proposal ■ was to the effect that in the event of a vacancy occurring in a pastorate the Presbytery would make a list of ministers whom it regarded as suitable, for the position, and this list would be considered by a selection committee. If the vacancy was not filled within nine months the Presbytery would \ have the power to fill it without the op-' tion' of a call. The proposal was rejected by a- large majority. - DREDGE HAND DROWNED. • GREYMOUTH, Tuesday. A man named AVTIIiam Glen, who has worked on the Notown dredge ever since she started, fell overboard at three o'clock this morning, and was drowned.
