Mrs. Ca-tley presided; Mr., Davie contended -that the economic iburdbna were due; to private monopoly, and."that such eviftcould only be cured by the-Jjaibour policy-of the State-compet-ing; ■with, the private monopoly towards the regulation of" prices. The national system •of-educaiteon should be maintained as free irom the primary school to the University, and full attention, should be given to technical as our country- had to-compete with other countries in industry. In addition -to the old age pension, he held that pensions shoiitd be provided for* those wio are invalided Or incapacitated for life. In answer to a question, the candidate declared himself in favour of Dominion Option on the liquor question on a bare majority. Personalry he was a,, temperance man, but, apart"from that, lie held to the bare majority vote as ■being in keeping with the- sound Lalwur policy of a referendum decision. Mr. D.
