RESIGNATION OF CHIEF INSPECTOR

Mr. D. Petrie, M.CJ., -vrho has occupied the position o! Chief-Inspector under the Auckland Education Board for some seventeen years past, has given notice of his resignation, to take effect at the end of the present year. Mr. Parr, in referring to the matter at to-day's meeting of the Auckland Board of Education, mentioned that Mr. Petrie desired to he relieved of his duties, if possible, in June, and the Executive Committee recommr that the resignation be accepted — rth regret, and Mr. Petrie be given six months , leave of absence on full pay. This, the Committee thought, would "*! some small recognition of the long *Jid faithful services rendered to the and to the cause of Education in I' w Zealand by Mr. Petrie. The Chairn--n said he was snre all would agree •with him in acknowledging the uniform honesty of purpose that always characterised the Chief-Inspector's work. He had always been straightforward and above board in his dealings, and it was possible to always place the greatest confidence in his honesty of intention.
