SUPPOSED DROWNING.
MAN'S iMTSTVERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE 15 A man named Frank Hill, aged 40, has disappeared frogs the yacht Katie under circumstances which seem to suggest that a fatal accident has taken place. He was' last seen, on board .the yacht, which was moored in Mechanics'- Bay, about 400 yards from Wynya,rd pier. Hill was employed by Mr Edward Hodgson, coal and explosives 'merchant, of Parnell, and on Saturday morning he went aboard I the yacht, intending to go to Maraetai, •which is about 10 miles from Auckland, ■for a cargo of explosives. In the afternoon, Mr Hodgson was informed that his iboat was still lying at her anihorage, and he went off to inquire the cause of the delay; but the only traces of Hill that could be found were his coat and hat and pipe. Mr Hodgson, when •he last • saw Hill, noticed that ie was hauling in the cable chain. It is feared that he must ' have slipped . and fallen overfboard. The -water there is 11 feet deep. Hill, who is unmarried, has lived in Parnell for a considerable time. Sergeant Ramsay, assisted ■by some constoibles, was engaged for about half an hour yesterday morning dragging for the 'body of the missing man. They recovered it not far from Wynyard pier. The full name of the deceased was Frank Ernest -Hill. Some ' time ago, it is said, he fell over a cliff 'at Parnell and sustained a fracture of • the skull. » An inquest will be held. ■■ " ■ >•'
