ROTORUA, Monday. j A sitting of the Police Commission continued this afternoon. Sergeant Watt, in charge at Rotorua, ' thought promotion should be by merit ] aione, but after being questioned by Mr. I Bishop admitted that service and experii ence were also necessary. Mr. E. R. Gerard, official assignee, J called by Mr. Dinnie, said that hia duties ! often brought him in contact with the poiice. and he had uuiformly found them courteous, efficient, and tnistworthy. I All witnesses attributed the paucity of suitable recruits for the police lorce xr> i the smallnesa of the pay compared to that earned by general workers.
