A greasy ball and slippy, treacherous ground made play very uncertain in the four games that were brought off at Ecjen ground. In spite of the steady rain, however, "a good number of soccer enthusiasts turned up to watch, the principal interest being centred in the game between the hitherto successful Corinthians team and the Wesleyan Toung Men's Institute. The Corinthians showed themselves the stronger team from the Btart, though neither side showed brilliant ''combination. Early in the tlvst half Eqrshaw netted for the Corinthians, who continued to press, though thg conditions made; erratic shooting the order of"the day.' After a spell of fairly fast play, however,' Harvey, from the right wing, sent in a dandy long shot, whlcli fetched up lnsfde the net. giving the Corinthians their second goal. FivS minutes after this Cruddock, of the leading team, .got a nasty smack on the nose from the heavy ball, and play was stopped for a couple of minutes. Then Cradddck came back, and W.Y.M.I. forced a corner, but nothing resulted. Just before the interval Forshaw netted again, and at half-time the score stood:— Corinthians, 3 goals. W.Y.M.1., nil. In the second half W. 1.51.1. attacked in a determined manner, but the Corinthians' defence was good, Paget, at back, playing a very sound game. ■ Then Corinthians pressed, and even play followed. The V.M.C.A. were very much hampered by the absence of a couple of players, ana had to face the Caledonians with only nlue men. The forwards played a good solid game, Boyne being prominent, but the Scotchmen had the whip hand. Whittle got through the V.M.C.A. goal twice, and Barber also scored for the Caledonians. The score at half-time was:— Caledonians, 3 goals. V.M.C.A., nil. The tide showed signs of turning after the interval, and within five minutes of the resumption Boyne sent in a beautiful long shot, v/hich went home. Superior numbers told the tale, however, and the Caledonians made thlng ß hot, Renfrew and Dunseth. who had been playing a good game all through", both scoring; " Result: Caledonians, 5r goals. V.M.C.A., 1 goal. SECOND GRADE, TABERNACLE v. GORDONS. Referee: Mr. Smytheman. The Tabernacle eleven soon had the measure of their opponents, and made the pace hot throughout.
