The annual meeting of the council of the Fire Underwriters' Associations of New Zealand opened in Wellington today, those present being:—Messrs. J. Buttle, president (New Zealand Office), D. D. Meeres (Alliance), L. Rose Jaggar (Atlas), A. E. Kernot (Australian Alliance), C. A. Ewen (Commercial Union), R. W. Brown (Farmers' Co-operative), R. G. White (Guardian), C. J. Cooper (.Liverpool, London, and Globe), H. G. Mayne (London and Lancashire), H. E. Williams (National), A. F. Rattray (Northern), G. A. Russell (North British), C. W. Tanner (Norwich Union), R. M. Simpson (Phoenix), D. A. Abercrombie (Queensland), Bendall (Royal Exchange), T. R. Fisher (Standard"), F. H. Pickering (Sun). J. Kirker (South British), J. -S. Jameson (United), J. Edgar (Victoria), J. Buchan (Yorkshire), G. Reed (Union),.H. S. V. Fletcher (secretary) . \ The meeting, which is not open to the Press, Will '• last for several days, and it is anticipated th*t it will result in an increase of rates.
