THE PROPOSED PLAYGOERS' CLUB.
CTo the Editor.) Sir, —-Mr. Henry Kolker. has lately thrown out a suggestion to tie'numerous theatre-goers of this" city which deserves serious consideration, namely, the establishment of a Playgoers' Club in Auckland. In this city the theatre occupies a prominent place in the life of the people, and there is-no city in the Dominion where the playhouse, is. more, tensively patronised. In most modern cities some.-such club as, Mr. Kolker speaks of is to be found, and the objects of such a society, the drawing of public attention to -the educative f/4e of the theatre, the heightening of the senses of artistic taste- and appreciation, the increasing 'of the a interest in the drama as a real factor in modern, life—these 6b-1 jects can be fostered by no surer and more effective means than the establishment of a Playgoers' Club. One feature of the proposed society •■must needs be addresses, to tie members, by the leading; actors and actresses'who nowadays pass Jso frequently through the city on their tours, and who are always found willing to assist such societies wribnever called upon. As a social centre and as a power to amend conditions.in the theatre of all kinds, whici the better-feeling playgoer must consider need improvement, a Play-1 Club would be bound to have considerable influence, and we hope that Mr. Kolker's suggestion will be carried l further, and that some definite scheme I will be formulated Whilelwlr. Kolker is jsrtill in. this city to carry it into effect j .—I am, etc., PLAYGOEB.
