Several letters have been forwarded to the Chamber of Commerce drawing , attention to the desirability of opening up trade with Norfolk Island. The writers point out that the Island is only three days' sail from New Zealand, whereas to Sydney it is 10 days' sail. The island exports £10,000 in gold every year, and the great proportion of it should come to New Zealand, as merchants here should be able to supply as cheaply as those in Sydney. He added that natives assured him there would be a profitable trade for a steamer calling once a month.
