HAMILTON ITEMS.
(By Telegraph.—Own CorresponfleoO HAMILTON, this^gay. Xt the Police Court to-day a young Maori named Rako Patene pleaded guilty to stealing a horse, saddie and bridle at Hamilton on August 7. Evidence showed that accused, who is a Volunteer, wished to visit Auckland with Jiis company at the time of the visit of the American battleships, but having no horse, stole one from the Lake reserve, and, representing that Captain Raynes had sent him, obtained -a saddle and bridle from Mrs. Aitken, of Frankton. He took part in the celebrations, and afterwards took the horse to Matamata, where he sold it for £4. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
Annual meetings of various county and. borough councils were held yesterday for the purpose of electing chairmen and representatives on the Waikato Hospital Board, with the following results: — Waikato County: Chairman, Mr. John Gordon; Board representatives, Messrs. Bailey, Paterson and Clarkin. Hamilton-. Borough Hospital representative, -Mr. Bell. Waipa County chairman., Mr. J. Fisher; Board representatives, the chairman and Messrs. Finch and I'onniket. Raglan County chairman, Mr. B. Hcwett; Board representatives, Messrs liankart and MeGuirk.
The Hamilton Horticultural Show waa held yesterday, and w:is a sueee.-vsful exhibition. The principal prize takers were: Pot plants, Mrs. R. l'arr and -Miss Searaneke; roses, Mesdames Douglas, Matthew and MeDcrmott; champion rose, Mrs. Matthew; sweet peas, Mesdames Ross and Douglas.
