(By relegrcph. —Frees AeeorlatlonJ CHARGE OF PERJURY. INVEKCARGILL, Wednesday. The case in which David Cochrane, who is charged with perjury in connection with the recent suit, Watson Bros. v. the Southland Frozen Meat Company, was concluded to-day, and Cochrane wa3 committed for trial. NAPTER IMPROVEMENT LOANS. NAPIER, this day. The Napier Borough Council resolved to ask the ratepayers to sanction the following loans: Trams scheme £35,000-, roads £15,500, sanitation £40.000. TRADE OF GISBORNE. GISBORNE, this day. A large gathering of business men was held aboard the s.s. Manuka to-day to celebrate the opening of the Union Co.'s new offices in Gisborne. The Mayor presided. Congratulatory speeches -were made concerning the enterprise of the company and its effort to cater for local trade. Captain Newton remarked that I this -was his 117 th visit to Gisborne, and 'he had never had to pass the port or to overcarry a single package or passenge.r. MORE IMMIGRANTS. WELLINGTON, this day. The Arawa, due here from London next week, is bringing 129 assisted passengere, 04 of whom are adults. Amongst these are 20 farmers: six farm labourers, and jl3 domestic servants. One man has £ 403 1 and all the others have a little capital.
