The Chamber of Commerce met at 1i.30 o'clock this afternoon, when Mr L. J. Bagiiall presided. About fifteen members were present.

Custom Laws: The Department of Trade and Customs wrote, statiug that section 182 of the Custom Laws Act 1908 provides that a certiorate shall be produced in proof of the due landing of goods exported from a warehouse. The desirability of modifying the law will be considered when an opportunity presents itself of amending the present Act. The letter was received.

Bankruptcy Laws. —The Dunedin Chamber of Commerce wrote re proposed α-mendment of the bankruptcy laws, suggesting that the matter should be referred to the conference of chambers of commerce next March. It was also pointed out that the petition forwarded was not in accordance with the recommendation of the Chamber in 1907, in which it was suggested that a private or expert trade assignee be appointed in place of the official assignee. Mr A. B. Robertson said what was wanted was a commission to go round the chambers of commerce, and then formulate recommended amendments. The letter was received.
