A TRAIN DERAILED.
WRECKAGE TAKES FIRE. MANY LIVES LOST. NEW YORK, October 17. Forest fires destroyed a culvert on a Michigan railway track, with the result that a train containing a load of fugitives from Metz, where fires are also raging, was derailed. The wreckage and piles of railway sleepers took Sre and the men, becoming 1 panic-stricken, fled, leaving the women and children to take care of themselves. I Many of them perished, a rescue party finding 15 charred skeletons among the ruins. A fireman who took refuge in an engine tank was boiled to death.
