MURDER OR THE HIGH SEAS.
CAIRNS, Sept. 16. Two Japanese beche-de-me. fishermen ! named Haramatsu Hannaguchi and Shik- : chi Numabam were yesterday afternoon committed for tria lon a charge of wilfully murdering a New Guinea boy in ■ their employ on August 26, near the Barrier Reef. The evidence of five New i Guinea and Murray Island boys showed 1 that the mate, the last-named accused, forced the boy under water two fathoms j deep tour times, and otherwise ill-treated [ him, with the result that he eventually I died.
