SHIP'S OFFICER KILLED.
i NEWCASTLE, Sept. 16. | The master of the barque Kinross-shire Captain McKinnon. arrived from Ade laide last night. He had a painful stoiy I to tell regarding the death of the see-on J I officer oi the barque on the trip roumi from Spencer's Gulf. The Kinross-shir, left Port Adelaide on September 7, and made a quick run to Bass Straits. On Saturday, when bowling along before a fresh breeze, the second officer, Alexander Richardson, a man of about 16st weight, went aloft, and was engaged on the main upper topsail yard when, by some means, he lost his hold and fell to the deck, a distance of between 50ft and 60ft. His fall was witnessed by the captain and several hands w ho were on deck at tbe time. The unfortunate man was terribly injured, and died within a few seconds of his fall. The body was buried at sea. The deceased was 44 years of age, a native of Dundee 5 and was unmarried. He was an excellent- officer, and very popular aboard.
