Insurance Company's offlce. Mr John Daw son presided. . - A letter was read from the secretary of the. May Queen G.il. Company stating that a scheme bad already been placed before the shareholders of the company, whioh was approved. ■ The letter continued: "If year committee formulates a scheme, which wilt be more to the benefit of the field as well, my shareholders will' be ' prepared to , consider the same. , ' The letter was received. The Committee decided to write to the Minister for Mines, asking for tbe free use of the winding and pumping plant at the Big Pump shaft for the purposes of the scheme. The Chairman »aid the practical part of the deep level scheme had been outlined by the mine managers at the recent meeting nt Thames. He need not enlarge- upon it, bot wonld move that the scheme outlined by the mine managers be agreed upon. Mr C. Hudson "seconded the motion, which was agreed to. The question was raised by Mr Hudson as to how it was proposed to raise the water from the Big Pump shaft in order to sink to the thousand feet level. Mr MeCullough said the C4oft level went from the Big Pump shaft to the Prince! Imperial, and once the hard bar near the j Saxon shaft was ent through, the water ] would drain to the Thames Hanraki shaft, and be raised there. Under snch circumstances it would not mean pumping machinery being required at the Big Pump shaft. The Committee thrn spent some time considering the financial basis upon which a scheme should be formulated. The Chairman said the basis should be simple, equitable, and if possible bo as to allow all the companies interested in the scheme a chance of making a little profit in the event , of any one company striking a rich patch. The. Committee ROcnt a considerable rime discussing this point, and the question of all companies mirreudering the lower levels. Mr Mc-Cnlloußh said that was the late Mr T. RußSfiirs scheme 26 years ago, bnt innumerable objects were raised, and it was found such a scheme was not feasible. The Committee then adjonrned to afford time for delegates to consider the various • proposals submitted.
