The reef has now improved in volume being fully 2ft in width, the quartz carrying better mineral ihan hitherto, the country being of a firm sandstone, with mineral veins interlaced through it. At the Kaukani low level we drove 13ft in a hard quai'tz formation, and then let a contract to extend this level 200 ft, which distance should bring us under the outcrop of the reef from which the rk-h assays were recently obtained. This level will intersect j the reef at a vertical depth of about 300Tt, and will also pass through three other reefs of large dimensions before that ore body is met with. I might also state that the contractors started operations on Thursday last i and have now driven through the hard formation, and are in an excellent channel of country, both for speedy progress and carrying gold-bearing reefs.
