BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monlhly meeting of the above Council was held on Thursday evening. A letin reply to a communication received from the Council objecting to any curtailment of the time-table, Mating tmt upon the Ferry Company undertaken not to lesson the number of trips the permission requested by the Ferry Company would be granted.
School for Birkeubead.—The secretary of the Education Hoard wrote, Btating that the resolution of the Council suggesting thsit a school site should b<. secured Jit Birkcnhead had been referred to the l\"ortncote School committee for tbelr report.
Kanitaiy Matters.—The district engineer reported that the nuisance complained of at the police station had been remedied as far aw possible , under the present conditions, without s. drainage system.
Victoria-road Footpath.—.Mr. \V. T. Bagot asking for this footpath, and undertaking to spret'i it. The request was grunted.
Main-road Contract.—Messrs. Gilbert and ! Frith wrote, stating that they required a plan of the proposed alterations to the upper roadway before they would state the price required for the piece of land to be taken from their properties. The Council, after considerable discussion, concluded that It would bo Inadvisable to state definitely the actual work to be carried out. owing to the peculiar nature of the ground, anit resolved that replies be sent stating that the Council desire lo know the price Messrs. required, such price to be stated within fourteen days-., otherwise the Council may be compelled to operate under the Public Works Act.
Talmerston-road.—Mr. E. F. Tlzard wrote asking that this road from Wey-moulh-street to Brassey-road should be restored to the same state it was In when taken over by the Borough. Keferred to Works Committee.
Overhanging Trees and Hedges. The foreman submitted a list of names of owners having trees and hedges overhanging footpaths and roads. deferred to Legal Committee.
Birkdnle-road Drainage.—Mr. W. Spargo offered to Supply 12-inch pipes to carry the water from the roadway through his prodone by the Council. It was decided to accept the offer. Proposed Wharf ut Victoria-road and Repairs to Birkdale-wharf. —The draft petition with reference to the proposed wnarf at Victoria-road was submitted to and approved by the Council. A further petition asking for the widening and strengthening of the present wharf at Birkdale was presented, and it was decided that the latter petition lay on the table until next meeting of the Council, nnd that it be presented to the Harbour Board In conjunction with £he petition referring to the proposed wnarf at Victoria-road.
Victoria-road Footpath.—lt was resolved to place some ash on the footpath from Birkdale-road to Mr. F. A. Osmond's.
Palmerston-road Footpath.—lt was decided to place ash from the corner of Bras-sey-road to Mr. F. Taylor's, and from the corner of Weymouth-street to the cottages on the west side of this road.
Harbour Boards Bill.—On the motion of Councillor Skeates it was decided to write Mr. E. W. Allison. SLP. for the district, and other members, asking them to support a clause providing for joint representation for Northcote nnd Blrkenhead in the Amending Act now before the House.
