WESTPORT MURDER CHARGE.
\Z... * r (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) H NELSON, Friday. At the Suprema*Court this afternoon the defence in the-charge of murder at Westport was - continued. In his opening address Mr Herdman strongly emphasised that no tobacco had been found in Bourke's effects, and that no evidence had "been brouglrt that anyone had bought tobacco from him. Ivy Pearce, employed at the fish shop where the row took place on the night of the tragedy, said accused came in about 7.30 pan., but she merely guessed the time. Mrs Sham, a boardlnghouse-keeper, said she passed the post-office going to the theatre at three minutes to eight. She noticed accused in the theatre, Halinen especially. They were talking in a foreign language, and went out during the interval. She afterwards saw Halinen push someone away from the fish shop.
