DISAPPEARANCE AND SUICIDE.
— • _ BODY FOUND IN THE SCRUB.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent).
THAMES, this day. About a month ago a man, approaching middle-age, arrived at the Thames, and stayed for one night at the Shortland Hotel. In the morning he went for a walk, but did not return, and nothing more was heard of him. His luggage, which was left at the hotel, contains papers which lead to the supposition that his name was Percival Tomkies. On Saturday morning the much decomposed body of the missing man was found lying on a scrub-covered spur above the booms at Kauaeranga. An examination disclosed the presence of a bullet wound in the right side of the head, while a revolver, with one chamber discharged, was lying under the body. The papers in his possession state that the deceased was a tramway driver from Melbourne. On his arrival he inquired concerning the locality of. the cemetery. An inquest was opened yesterday and adjourned until to-day for further evidence.
