On a charge of forgery and false pretences, at Napier, an elderly man named John Simpson" (alias McCoombe) ivas sentenced! to-day, by Mr. Justice Chapman, to three years' imprisonment, and declared to be an habitual prim inn, I. A •native youth naiced Ruakana Hnxu, for theft at Warrca, was sentenced to twelre months. The cable steamer Iris berthed alongside the Home trader, Matatija, this morning to take on board sixteen miles of cable of various sizes.
