A*ynT!*lT!g =* Alexander Eadie. a cripple, who was some weeks back consigned to Pakatoa Island by Mr. Kettle, and Heurv Thomas, a Wellington inebriate, who was dispatched to the same resort by Mr. Bidden, appeared in Court this mommg under charges of gross misconduct and insubordination to the Salvation Army authorities at the "Island." The conduct in question, said Sergeant Ben (Try, included suck lapses from proper demeanour as continuous abusrea language to the officer in charge, and refusal to obey lawful commands. 'Tf on were commrcted by mc under the Habitual Drunkards Act some weeks j ago," remarked his Worship to "Radio j "and for infringing the regulations you are liable to six months' imprisonment. ,5 "1 haven't committed any infringements." , declared Eadie, "and I should like an adjournment to consult a solicitor and get evidence.'" Thomas appealed for the same privilege, so both men were remanded till the afternoon to enable them to prepare their defence. John Bain, who made matters rather lively and unpleasant in .Karangahaperoad on Saturday night, using powerful talk and some physical offensiveness on j a glass door, which suffered to the extent of about 15/-, appealed for an opportunity to get back to the gunmelds. from which he hailed. His Worship commented severely on his conduct, but in response to Bain's appeal and promise to leave town, he inflicted a fine of £2 for the language, with an order to come up for sentence in connection with charges of disorder - liness and -wilfully damaging the door, the ruined glass of which he was requir,ed to replace. "I am too much obliged to you." said Bain, gratefully, when given time in which to pay. James Mclnoid. a second offender, was prohibit:ed for twelve months. Eliza Monaghan, a third time visiter, -was allowed to go and looked for work. A quartet of first offenders received the usual portion of the unwise. THE K£W SOUTH. WALES CASE. The man P. A. Gould, arrested a fort-1 night ago at Hamilton on a charge of I obtaining money by false pretences at '■ Forbes, New South Wales, was this ran-mfn'T hanCed over to Senior Constable Bvrne. of the N.S.W. Police Force, for transport under escort to Australia. Constable Byrne arrived for his prisoner by the Wimmera yesterday, and returns with his charge by the Sydney boat to-night.
