During the visitation of a cyclone this morning, five telegraph poles between Waihi and Athenree were struck by. lightning, and stripped almost to toe ground, as if split down with an axe. In connection with the storm, Mr. H. B. Devereux, F.R.M.S., has supplied the following meteorological notes: "The cyclone of yesterday has passed to the south-east, and the electrical phenomenal of last night was no doubt the usual: "trough" phenomena which ia experienced wien the trip of a cyclone is afc right angles to any locality. The rainfall recorded to yesterday was I.l3'ut, making the total to date for the month 9.sSin, which is considerably above the average.
