' Under the auspices of the Lower Waikato Gugby Uuion, tile Huntly aud Ngaruawahia teams met at Huntly on Saturday, the game resulting in the defeat of the visitors by 14 points to nii. -■ j PORT ALBERT. ~A t the annual householders - meeting Messrs F. Neal, T. A. Gubb, H. Legge° B. M. uubb, Percy Treadwell, J. A Shepherd, G. Underwood were elected ou the school committee. Mr A. Xeal was re-elected chairman, and T. A. Gubb as secretary and treasurer. The committee unanimously passed a resolution appreciative of the continued good report ot the work done by the teacher, Mr. G. B. Reid. On Saturday a football match Port Albert v. Warfcworth, was played on the Port Albert ground, and resulted: Port Albert 27Warkworth. nil. ' " " Messrs. I. A. Gubb and A. Neal. the two retiring members of Albertland Soutii Road Board, were re-elected unopposed on Saturday. ' • Arrangements in connection with the holding of the forty-sixth anniversary of the lAlbertland Settlement oil May 29 are bding made, and the Rev. W. Gittos, as ou so many previous occasions, has been invited to preside. Another old and respected Albertlander died at Wharebine last week, Mr Mark Stott, aged 7S. KOETErKOHTT. At the Kohukohu Police Court before Mr. R. Stone Florance, S.M., Lionel Hardiman was convicted of using obscene language, and fined £5 aud costs, £3 9/,.iv default three months' imprisonment. Charlotte Smith, convicted of common assault, was ordered to pay the costs, amounting to £2 17/; and James Henry Dyer, also convicted of assault, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment in Hokia'nga police gaol. Constable Cox, of Rawene, conducted for the police in the three cases _ WHANGAREI. •-.,... (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Sunday night fire broke out in a workshop and barn combined at Kensington, owned by Mr Alfred Thomas Htmt. There being no water supply available, the premises were completely gutted, with their contents, consisting of a quantity of hay. tools, etc. Mr Hunt estimates his loss nt £SO. The buildings were insured for £60 in the Victoria Office. The Whangarel fire brlcade turned out, but were unable to render any assistance. The following fixtures were allocated at the meeting held on Friday of the Whangu rei Rugby Union: —May 14, first cup match", North v. South, at Kensington Park; Mnj 21.- South v. A report lias been circulated that Mr llcKeuzie. chairman of the "WTiangarei County Council, has decided to contest the Marsden seat the the nest general election. The "Whangnrel' County Council met on Friday, and, instructed by Mr P. Covacich, Messrs Wilson and Harrison, solicitors, applied for the sum of £13, allegedly due on the Brown's Hill co/iumii. .- Councillor McDonald proposed that the facts of the ease be mentioned to the solicitor. This was agreed to. The Council agreed to attend to the water tables on both sides of the main road at Kamo. The superintendent of electric lines -wrote that telephonic communication between Hikurangi and Whananaki wonlil be establlsaea on a guarantee of five annual, payments, or a lump sum equal to four! years' subsidy. Councillor McDonald said I that he believed the settlers concerned were prepared to give the necessary guarantee. It was agreed to make-an alteration o( boundary between the Otamatea and the "Whangarei Counties, as" requested by the Otamatea Council. A report by Mr TV. M. Atkinson on the Toe Toe Block-road was referred, to the eurreyor to define the .boundary. Councillor Kernohan and the engineer were reottested ■to make an inspection and the amount of damage caused by the deviation .through Mrs McKenzie'e property carried out on account of the bridge on the Maunu-road having been broken by a traction engine. It was moved by Councillor Kernohan, nml seconded by Councillor Kevr, that Mr Yeflands be paid £12 in respect of compensation for n road taken through his property, on condition that he sign a deed of dedication to the County Council.
