EXPECTED DEATH WITHOUT TRIAL.
At the Geraldton (W.A.) Sessions, John Griesengerd pleaded guilty to a charge of having unlawfully killed Win. Robinson, at Manfred station, on December 7. Accused, who is an Austrian and a new arrival, ignorant of the language and customs of hte country, when arrested, expected to be put to death without trial. Deceased and the accused were kangaroomg, and bought a large supply of grog. They became intoxicated, and natives assembled at the camp. A gun was . procured to drive them away. At night accused slept with £12 under his pillow. During the night someone entered the tent and grasped accused by the neck. A struggle ensued, and accused picked up the gun and fired, and wounded Robinson. Until then he did not know the identity of his assailant; and had medical attention been available, Robinson would have lived, instead of bleeding to death Mr. Justice McMillan impressed upon the accused the seriousness of his position, and bound him over in two sureties of £50 to appear for sentence when called upon.
