AMUSEMENTS.

. i HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. < Carter, the magician, entered upon the ' second week of his Auckland season at His Majesty's Theatre last evening, there being a large audience which thoroughly appreciated the clever tricks and illu- . sions of the performer. The first change of programme was presented, a number of new feats and illusions being exhibited. These included some astonishing card tricks, an ordinary pack of cards being called upon to act in the most extraordinary fashion. The conjuror also produced such unexpected articles as bowls of water, in which goldfish were placidly swimming, from nowhere in particular. Several new and interest- . ing Chinese tricks were introduced, and • much interest attached to the slate writ- , ing of alleged spirits. The cabinet trick came in for special approval, while the clever work of Miss Abigail Price also j, elicited hearty applause. The perfor-1 mance will be repeated this evening, and ] to-morrow there will be a matinee for j ladies only. J
