The first time for many years Ngaruawahia wan favoured with ideal weather for the annual aquatic carnival, and the attendance was consequently very large. The Maoris were also much in evidence—indeed, never before has so many been seen at Ngaruawahia. The entries in the rowing races by the Auckland clubs were very disappointing, only eight crews competing, exclusive of the single sculls. Mr. H. Booth was starter for the rowing races, and Mr. B. D. Hewett I and R. Bollard judges. Proceedings be- | gan with a parade of war canoes, which j was an imposing spectacle. I; Waitemata. 2; Hamilton. 3. A great race. Won by a canvas. Also started: Ngaruawahia and St. George's. Junior Fours 1J miles: West End (Carter. Kelly. Biomrieid, A. Carlaw), 1; Ngaruawahia also started. West/TEnd were in front all the way and won by two lengths.
