ROTORUA CARNIVAL » HIGHLAND NIGHT. The Highland night at the Rotorua carnival was a great success. The attendance was splendid, notwithstanding the fact that the carnival was nearing the end of its three weeks' duration. The treatment of the Highlanders-by the Botorua people left nothing to he desired, and aIK who were present are looking forward to the next visit to the town of boiling springs and porridge pots. Great praise is due to Mr Frederick Francis Ellis for the way in which he carried out the arrangements regarding accommodation, and the various competitions at night. In the bagpipe competition four entered for the match, and three for the strathspey and reel. The strathspey and reel was a good competition, the result being a tie between Pipe Major Emslie (Auckland), and W. G. Cochrane. In the play off, Cochrane gained the verdict. Id the various dances there were' five competitors, and the judging met with the approval of all concerned. The following is the prize list: — Playing Marches on the Bagpipes.—PipeMajor J. W. Emslie (Auckland), 1; W. G Cochrane (Auckland), 2. Dancing Highland Fling.—Mary Barber (Auckland), 1; K. Gardiner, 2. Playing Strathspeys and Reels.—W. G.
