As the winze Is down HUft, the r.--quired depth, a start has been made to drive east nn the leader, which has not previously : r " we rked upon. --The manager telegraphed this morning: "Ton pounds of good picked stone from the cross leader.' . New [na.— The crushing is shaping for a I disappointing return. The manager adds: "1 cannot account for this, as colours of gold were seen regnlariv." Talrua Extended.—There Is now plenty of I quartz abou' the face of the drive. The I stone assayed was, however, of poor qual- [ Kur.innl.--A small stringer has been me* I Wnh hi the crosscut, which the manager ■ believes to he one from Hunt's reef. This I leader is about Jin iv width, and shows improvement on those previously met with. The manager Intends to prove all stringers met with. In Catran's crosscut the face is : Interlaced with small stringers. The <jnar!z Is kindly and heavily mineralised. As water ! Is making, tiie manager expects these . stringers to .junction with a compact lode. I At the battery level tie manager considers I the Indications for stone are still promising I Kapnw.-u.-Tb" rise above the new reef I has been enminued to the surface level . above. The fine dirt gives very fair dish I prospects. When the shoot is complete iv i j about nine days, this dirt can be lint to the Mattery. There is a little Improvement in the MrTsaae'e reef, but the ore canuot be got away till the passes are emptied of ' mullock. May Queen Extended. —When breaking douu quartz in the new level on the 13th strong colours of gold were seen in tbe solid quartz as the drive is extended eastward. About six to eight inches of crushing dirt are being saved for the battery j ■ The manager expects the reef to make more I ! solid as the drive advances. I Old Allmrnia.—ln the face the Sons of ! : Freedom reef is still large, and carries good : mineral indications. Crushing was com- ! meneed. but so far is shaping poorly. Karang.-ihakc.—The low level is in Srtft I The country is of a first-class nature, with : numerous well mineralised quartz veins : land the manager Is of opinion the nrihi • body of the No. 3 reef is close at Baud ' From the kindly nature of the country a'ld ; iihe promising looking veins showing in the ' lace, the reef should give a good account I 1 01 itself when met with. At the iut?'-- ' mediate level the crosscut to intersect tue I No 1 reef is now in ISft from The footwail i of the No. :> reef, the country being similar ! to that coming down in the winze. The No 1! reef in the Southern face is :sft wide, and ; is carrying a lot of good minerals, includin" copper pyrites and zinc blend, and is likely to mike picked srone at any rime Talma Golden Hills.--The'low level crosscut is in ltififl. Tbe country is a good class ! of sandstone, and several larce (Unties hive I ben passed through this week, which'shows i the auriferous nature of the strata No 1 reef is compose.! of hard sulphide ore which prospects well. The footwall is nowexposed, and a portion is taken along for a dig. About 3ft of reef is exposed in the face, with no sign of the hangingwall. Payable ore has been followed for the whole of the distance driven, and the manager is we!! .-..-iiiotied wtih the way in which this reef is opening up going north. Tairua Triumph.—The low level crosscut is in 21f»fr. The present face is In very I firm country, intermixed with veins of quartz, which show a little gold by pounding. The manager is of the opinion that he Is in close proximity to the main lode The recent heavy rains have done some | little damage to the first section of tunnel, i on account of which the work in the face. ' has been at a standstill for the past three ! days. Repairs, however, are now com- ' pleled. Kirikiri.—The North drive is in 30ft. The size of the reef is loin, but the stone does | not look so well as previously, as the change I of country disturbed the reef. The rise Is up 22ft, find the country is very favourable for gold. The manager thinks the reef must be stronger above, as there are several large streams of water coming from the back of the rise. Magnet.—The drive on the main reef Is in sGft north from the crosscut. The lode Iβ about 151n in thickness in the face, and i a few colours of 501 a hay« been seen. Ihere

is a good srrong body of quartz in the back of the rise about 3ft in thickness, composed of well-mineralised quartz, but no gold lias yet been seen in it. i Thames.—- In the western drive on the Shamrock' reef the lode has become much smaller in the face, and is hot looking so well. Tup winze snnK on Xo. 1 lode has been carried dou-n to a depth of ISft. and ■ the quartz broken down with a rather dis- ■ appointing result, as though gold was seen ; for some little distance below the level it ! did not appear to continue down to the I bottom of the winze, and as the water beI ! came difficult to contend with the winze has I 1 been discontinued. I Hason.—Operations on No. 2 Cardigan lode : above No. 4 level are being continued. Three . 1 stones are now in hand, and the prospects 1 so tar met with are encouraging, the lode ; : appearing to improve in quality upwards. I Some good dabs of gold have been met I with in the ore brokeu during the last few 1 days. I May Queen. —The Queen of Beauty shaft !is now down 874 ft. The country at the bot- : i torn of the shaft is still of a good descripI tion. In the southern drive the main reef jat No. 11 level is o a heavily mineralised I nature. Oood prospects are still being met ;!wiru on the footwall branch leader. The j winze from No. 5 level is down a total j depth of 79ft. or withiu 10ft of the back lof >'o. H level, and the leader at the botj torn looks as well as ever, showing gold ! freely at ench breaking down. The drive !on the leader from tie crosscut at No. 6 level towards the winze is being continued, : and here the leafier also looks well, and an. 1 other week or two should complete the ■ connection with the bottom of the winze, so as to enable stoping operations on the . block between the two levels to be carried on. There is no doubt that the block will be a highly payable one. TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED. The local committee. representing Auckland shareholders in the Talisman Consolidated <";.M.
