THE CARDINAL AT ROTORUA.
AN ENTHUSIASTIC EECEPTION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) EOTORUA, this' day. Cardinal Moran was accorded a magnificent reception at Tama te Kapua (Maori carved house) this morning by the natives. A' large number of Europeans were also present. The Cardinal was escorted by a bodyguard of some 50 Maori warriors m full warpaint, and on his arrival at the Tama te JSapna. a large concourse of natives performed a dance of welcome, waving green bushes in their hands, and shouting cries of welcome to the distinguished party. This concluded, all adjourned to the interior of the big meeting house, where addresses were presented by the Catholic* of the town, both European and Maori, and speeches were made by high chiefe of the tribe, welcoming Hs Eminence, a3 one native said, as "the eye.of the Pope." Cardinal Moran thanked all for their kind expression of love and' devotion. The Maori, Be said, was a noble and industrious race, and his earnest prayer was that the Maori race would be preserved for all time. He had great love for the Maori people. At the conelniioa of his remarks; a. dozen girls danced an exhibition poi, which pleased his Eminence greatly.
