AN ISLAND MASSACRE.
IN THE SOLOMONS. TEN WOMEN AND' IT!' MEN KILLED. A report has been received in S3 - dney from the Solomon Islands, stating that a rising had taken place on Guadalcanal', resulting in the massacre of ten women and three men. It is stated that 200 natives, belonging to Moli, on the south side of the island, marched over the hills to Kaukau, on the opposite side, and set upon their victims, who were working in their gardens. The attacking party then left, taking the bodies of the men and women with them. Captain Chas. Menmuir, of the steamer Upolu, when seen by a Sydney " News " reporter, verified the statement, remarking that the murders were the result of tribal differences. On the Island of St. Christoval, a party of Europeans, who had landed to have a look at some new ground, were met by armed natives. Hostilities, however, were averted. The natives were in possession oi up-to-date Winchester rifles. A question which is exercising the minds of a great many traders is, '" Where do these arms come from ? "
