RESCUING EMPIRE VETERANS.
FROM POVERTY MD DB6EAJDATION. KING PATRON OF THE MOVEMENT. LONDON, January S. Lord Roberts has appealed to the nation to subscribe funds for the rescue ofCrimean and Indian Mutiny veterans from the workhouse. His Majesty the I'-ing has become patron of the movement, and has subscribed 1000 guineas, while the Prince of Wales, Duke of Connaught, and Prince Christian have become vice-patrons. An extremely influential committee bas been formed.
