THE HAURAKI GOLDFIELDS.
(By Telegraph-—Own Correspondent) WELUNGTON, this day. A communication has been received from the Thames County Council, requesting the Government to take such action as will enable that body to assist deep level mining and the drainage of mines. The Council has been informed J that the matter is receiving attention, and it is hoped that regulations amended in the direction indicated will shortly be issued. The Minister of Mines (the Hon. J. Mc Gowan). has approved of a subsidy of £52 10/, as recommended by the Ohinemuri County Council to enable J. H. Thompson to drive a tunnel for a distance of 350 ft. at the Mary Bell special claim, Waitekauri. A distance of 100 ft. Has already been driven, but 300 ft. to 350 ft. will require to be further driven in order to intersect the lode, which is said to contain payable ore. -_-__-—_-—__-__——____-__
