TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL

AXNTJAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Auckland Trades and Labour Council was held last night. The President (Mr. H. W. Brookes) occupied the chair, aud there was a large attendance. The balance-sheet showed that the receipts during the year amounted to £ 163 *2/6 i, and the expenditure to £152 S/SJ. A credit balance remained in hand of £10 14/1. The assets were set down at £30 0/11, and the liabilities at £20 0/5. The annual report showed that the Council still maintained its position as the recognised head of organised labour in the Northern industrial district. The number of affiliated unions to the Council last annual meeting was 24. In the interim there had been added the membership of three other unions (the Rattan and Wicker Workers, the Waterside Workers, and the Engineers). The Engineers' Union had rejoined the Council after an absence of three years. The Plumbers' Union had withdrawn, the reason being that it had to cancel its registration to re-register under a new name, but as soon as it was re-formed ' the Union would again affiliate. Referring to the work of the past year, , it was stated that the Arbitration Act I Amendment Act, introduced last session, had been strongly objected to by the I Council, and it would no doubt be op- I posed as strenuously again when it was brought down next session, unless the objectionai clauses were deleted. The election of officers for the ensuing year was as follows:—President, Mr. A. Rosser; vice-president, Mr. A. Pratt; treasurer, Mr. E. Evans; secretary, Mr. W. S. Moxsom; assistantI secretary, Mr. Moir; executive commit- ' tee, Messrs. F. Appleby, F. Reeves, J. Molloy, J. F. Derrick, J. C. Chappie; trustees, Messrs. J. Aggers and H. Bamfield; auditors, Messrs. J. McGuire and L. Henry. A vote of thanks to the outgoing officers concluded the meeting.
