THE BARMAID QUESTION. (Received 10.15 a.m.) ADELAIDE, this day. A private bill has been introduced to abolish barmaids and give those at present following that occupation ten years' tenure, as well as to prohibit all women except widows of licensees from holding licenses.

(Received 10.15 a-m.) _y_).N_.Y, this day. The Coal Lumpers' Union has carried a proposal that the union should deal direct with tlie owners in the matter with the handling of coal by eliminating middlemen. Better wages could be obtained and more efficient service rendered.

The leader of the South Australian Labour party has introduced a .bill in the Legislative Assembly abolishing distress for rent, and securing a proper provision for the families of well-to-do testators.
