FIRE AT PAEROA.

Mr. Carder and an assistant were stock-taking, and accidentally broke a bottle of benzine, and' a few seconds later Mr. Carder dropped* a lighted cigar," -which, on coming in contact with the benzine, caused a conflagration. Mr. Carder immediately rushed out and obtained buckets of water, and after considerable difficulty succeeded in quenching the flames. He was badly burnt about the face and hands. The damage is estimated at from £40 to -£50,. hut the stock is insured. The ! building is owned by Mr. Cassrels. Had promptitude not been shown by. Mr. CarI der, a big conflagration would have been inevitable, as the building is situjated in the centre of the main business j portion, where all the buildings are wooden structures.
