GISBORNE NEWS.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBORNE, this day. A man named James Coromisky has been committed to the hospital suffering from severe burns. He was asleep in his whare on a station at Wharekopae when it caught fire, and he narrowly escaped with bis life. The Harbour Board has decided to strike no rate for the current year. This will mean a saving to the ratepayers of £10.600, added to a further £3000 saved by the adjustment of wharfage dues. A charge of stowing away on the steamer Talune from Auckland was preferred against a young man named James Smith at the police court. Accused pleadpd guilty. Sergeant Williams stated that the accused had been unable to obtain work, and had sold his clothes. The money had all gone in drink. A fine of £2 and 2/- costs, or, in default, seven days' imprisonment was imposed.
