POISONED BY GAS.
WOMAFS DEATH AT PADDINGTOST.
A mysterious case of gas poisoning is at present engaging the attention of the Paddxngton .(-New South "Wales) police- ; Mrs. "Eva Millen, a comparatively young woman, -vvho lived with her daughter Olga, and her mother, Mrs. Moore, at 32, Glenmore-road, was found dead in the room which she shared vrith her two relatives., who were also found unconscious. Mrs. Millen carried on a laundry business at the house. At about 11 a.m. on May 27th, Mrs. Mary McGregor, a lodger, not having seen any of the three about, went to their room. Forcing the door, she noticed a strong smell of gas, and saw Mrs. Millen and Mrs. Moore lying on the floor and the girl lying across the bed. Neighi hours were called in, and the occupants lof the room carried out to the verandah linto the fresh air, a telephone message having been sent in the meanwhile to the Civil Ambulance Brigade. Mrs. Millen was, however, dead when the door was forced open. The two others were conveyed by the brigade to St. Vincent's Hospital, where they were admitted in a serious condition. A strance feature of the case is that the gas jet in the room was alight when Mrs. McGregor entered, and the gas was also burning in two other rooms. Both windows of the room were fastened. A cursprp inspection of the pipes failed to reveal where the escape occurred, but the police will doubtless have a thorough examination made with a view to discovering the leak. Mrs. MUlen-'s body was removed, to the Morgue. ■
